If you’re a Colbert Report fan and haven’t seen his final episode which aired last night, you won’t want to read this.
I personally only caught an episode here and there, but I always enjoyed it (though I was a much bigger fan of both The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight). With that said, I made sure to watch Mr. Colbert’s swan song.
It was funny and goofy and sweet when it seemed that every single famous person anywhere near New York showed up to sing on the set, however what got me was the very very end.
When Stephen Colbert ended the comedic experiment which was his show, and sent it back to Jon Stewart at The Daily Show, giving one last joke that the past nine years was really just an extended field report:
“From Eternity, I’m Stephen Colbert . . . Jon.”
“Thanks for that report, Stephen. And now here it is, your Moment of Zen.”
The timing, tone, and performance were all perfect.
Well done, gentlemen. I look forward to what you do next.
